Frequently Asked Questions

How do I stop my toilet from continually running?

A leak from your toilet cistern into the pan may seem harmless at first, however if left unattended this can lead to increased water bills. The cistern tap at the side of the toilet can be isolated when not in use, so we can then repair or replace your toilet.

What do I do if my water meter is leaking?

If the actual meter, isolation tap, or any pipework on the inlet side is leaking, call Hunter Water for repairs.

However, Hunter Water will not fix leaks caused by negligent damage, an install that is not up to Hunter Water’s standards (such as a meter that is too low or covered) or a leak that is on the outlet side of the meter. In these cases, you will need to contact a licenced plumber who can isolate the water service at the meter if required; or you can isolate the water service yourself while you wait for your plumber.

Do you do full bathroom renovations?

Yes. MJ Plumbing can assist with all plumbing renovations.

Can you install my dishwasher?

Sure can! Dishwasher installation is best left to a licenced plumber to ensure that all connections and fittings are installed correctly. MJ Plumbing will ensure the work is carried out according to the manufacturer’s requirements and will test all water and waste on completion.

How do I isolate my water service?

Depending on the leak, you may not have to isolate your entire water service. If the leak is coming from the toilet, you can isolate just the cistern tap. If the leak is coming from a sink or basin, check under the sink to see if there are two mini taps installed. If yes, these can be isolated individually. If not, you will need to isolate your service at the main water meter near your property boundary.

Why do I have low water pressure?

Ensure your isolation valve on the meter is fully open. Then identify if the issue is at certain fixtures only, hot or cold taps only, or your entire water service. There may be an issue with certain taps, your hot water system or (if your entire water service is affected) Hunter Water may be working in the area. You may also have a leak on your service.

Remember to always use a licenced plumber!
